트레이시 채프먼 Tracy Chapman, Fast Car 아주 특별한 포크가수

세상엔 두 가지 노래가 있다. 

희망과 꿈, 이상과 사랑처럼 밝은 면을 바라보고 노래할 수도 있고, 

불합리와 불평등, 가난과 고통처럼 어두운 면을 노래할 수도 있다.

어느쪽이 더 필요한지, 그건 알 수 없지만,

언제나 밝은 면만을 보고 사는 건 어려운 일이다.

세상엔 분명 어두운 면이 존재하기 때문이다.

어떤 기준으로 보느냐에 따라 달라질 수 있겠지만,

노래는 세상을 분석하는 게 아니라 '노래'하는 거니까.

우리는 노래를 통해 내 안에 있는 감정과 다시 만나기도 하고, 내 안에 없는 감정을 배우기도한다.

트레이시 채프먼Tracy Chapman은 포크가수다.

흑인이다.

여자다.

아주, 아주, 아주, 낮은 음역으로 노래한다.

그래서 많은 사람들이 노래만 듣고는 남자라고 생각하기도 한다.

그녀의 많은 '조건'이 전부 특이하다.

기타를 치며 세상의 어두운 면을 노래하는 흑인 여자 포크가수, 트레이시 채프먼.

Fast Car는 그녀의 대표곡 가운데 하나다. 아마도 Talkin' 'bout a Revolution과 함께 제일 많이 알려지지 않았을까 싶다.

데뷔, 성공, 인정, 이어지는 앨범의 실패, 단절, 침묵, 재기, 새로운 앨범의 성공…

그녀 역시 많은 성공한 사람들처럼 굴곡이 심한 인생을 겪었다.

그녀가 바라보는 세상의 어두운 면은 결국 사람의 마음 속에 있다.

*여러 영상을 봤는데, 이 영상이 음질은 조금 떨어지지만 노래는 제일 좋군요.
